STRIVING TO INCREASE TRAUMA RESILIENCE IN YOUTH

STRYV365 is expanding its presence in Chicago with two new collaborations designed to create more trauma resilient youth. The organization provided its fun brand of physical activities to hundreds of attendees at the Chicago Urban League’s Annual Youth Summit and Urban Initiatives End-of-Year Retreat for youth, teachers and parents.

Shining bright in Bronzeville

Congrats to Bright Star Community Outreach on the grand opening of The Urban Resilience Network (TURN) Center, a community-based social justice and social service hub for Greater Bronzeville.  The celebration featured a ribbon-cutting program with hundreds of residents, funders and supports, and elected officials, including Mayor Brandon Johnson. Among the resources available in the TURN Center: trauma-support and behavioral health programs, job skills development, educational opportunities for youth and vital health/wellness services!

BUILDING A VIOLENCE-FREE HEALTHY WESTSIDE

BUILD Chicago kicked off the summer calling an end to gun violence during its Wear Orange Peace March commemorating National Gun Violence Awareness Day. A brief program held prior to the march featured remarks from Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton, mother of Hadiya Pendleton, the Chicago teenager whose death sparked the establishment of Gun Violence Awareness Day; Mayor Brandon Johnson; Adam Alonso, CEO, BUILD; Tesa Anewishki, president and CEO, Loretto Hospital; and Charles Anderson, Principal, Michele Clark High School.

A few weeks later, BUILD hosted a Health & Wellness Fair for its staff and volunteers. In addition to health screenings, stress-relieving exercises, massages and a small vendor fair, the event culminated with a 90’s-themed party complete with a roller-skating rink and deejay.
